Meta Platforms and Alphabet's Google have entered a landmark agreement for AI chip rentals, signaling intensified competition in artificial intelligence infrastructure. The deal, valued in the billions, will see Meta leasing Google's Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) to power its next-generation AI models. While financial terms remain undisclosed, industry analysts note the arrangement's strategic importance as both tech giants race to dominate the AI hardware landscape.

Concurrently, Google has established a separate joint venture with an unnamed investment firm to lease TPUs to third-party clients. These custom-designed chips excel at training complex AI systems with unprecedented efficiency. The MOVE mirrors NVIDIA's recent success in GPU-as-a-service offerings, suggesting a broader industry shift toward cloud-based AI infrastructure.

Meta's aggressive hardware acquisitions continue unabated. The social media giant recently secured AMD chips capable of processing 6 gigawatts of AI workloads and partnered with Nvidia for its first large-scale deployment of Grace CPU servers. These investments form part of Meta's $40 billion infrastructure overhaul announced last quarter.
